Star Academy Places Third in the 2024 World Solutions Challenge
We are delighted to announce that a team of Star Academy students has achieved outstanding success in the 2024 World Solutions Challenge, organized by Future Problem Solving International. This prestigious global competition brought together young innovators, aged 10-15, from nine countries—including Australia, Bahrain, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Türkiye, and the UAE—as well as thirteen U.S. states. The competition challenged participants to explore the rapidly evolving topic of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) by developing an action plan and presenting their solution within a 1,000-word limit.
A Well-Deserved Victory
Under the expert guidance of Ms. Beverly Hugo, Head of the English Department, and Mr. Keenan Gray, Computer Science teacher, our students—Alex Shaigorodsky, Elizabeth Gisser, and Danielle Rumshisky—secured an impressive third-place finish in this international competition.
This achievement is particularly significant as the top three teams earn free entry to the Global Issues Flagship Competition, to be held in June 2025 at Indiana University. The event was further enriched by a partnership with the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Society, whose experts provided invaluable feedback to the competing teams. We extend our gratitude to the Glenn W. Bailey Foundation for sponsoring this remarkable initiative.
Innovation and Dedication in Action
Our eighth and ninth-grade students showcased exceptional critical thinking and teamwork. With only two weeks to prepare, they conducted in-depth research, applied a rigorous six-step problem-solving process, and developed an innovative solution to address the challenges of generative AI. Their award-winning proposal, the **”GenAI Misuse Mitigation Act,”** outlines a comprehensive legislative framework designed to combat misinformation through robust government protocols and regulations.
Celebrating Excellence
We are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication, ingenuity, and collaborative spirit, as well as the support and mentorship provided by their teachers. This accomplishment underscores Star Academy’s commitment to fostering critical thinking, innovation, and global citizenship in our students.
Congratulations to Alex Shaigorodsky, Elizabeth Gisser, Danielle Rumshisky, and their mentors for this remarkable achievement!
