Star Academy Students Engage in Civic Education with US Congresswoman Celeste Maloy
February 1, 2024, marked a significant educational milestone for Dr. Anderson’s 8th-grade Civics and US History class at Star Academy. In an enlightening virtual session, the students had the rare opportunity to interact directly with US Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (R-UT), delving into the intricacies of the United States government’s three branches.
Congresswoman Maloy, representing Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, shared invaluable insights from her tenure on Capitol Hill. The students, well-prepared and eager, engaged in a dynamic dialogue with the Congresswoman. They explored a range of topics, including her motivations for pursuing a political career, the day-to-day experiences and challenges of serving in Congress, her legislative priorities, and issues of importance to her constituents in Utah.
This session provided our students with a deeper understanding of the functioning of our national government and the significance of public service. We are profoundly grateful to Congresswoman Celeste Maloy for offering her time and wisdom, thereby enhancing our students’ appreciation of our nation’s democratic institutions and the role of public servants.
Our school is committed to providing our students with impactful educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Encounters like these are invaluable in fostering a sense of civic responsibility and a deepened understanding of American history and governance.
We thank Congresswoman Maloy for an educational and inspiring conversation that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our students.
