Star Academy Student Michael Li Wins National Tennis Tournament!
WELLESLEY, MA – We are proud to announce that Michael Li, an 8th-grade student at Star Academy for the Gifted and Talented, has claimed victory at the prestigious USTA Open L3 Junior Tennis Tournament held in St. Louis, Missouri.
Michael’s journey in the world of sports is nothing short of remarkable. Initially a competitive swimmer, he transitioned to tennis during the pandemic lockdowns, quickly rising through the ranks to become a standout national player. Earlier this year, he earned the title of 2024 14U sectional champion in the New England section, cementing his place among the nation’s elite junior tennis players.
The tournament presented numerous challenges, with a demanding schedule of four rounds played over two days, encompassing both singles and doubles matches. Michael and his partner demonstrated exceptional resilience, navigating unpredictable weather conditions that forced sudden shifts from outdoor to indoor courts. The doubles matches were especially intense, featuring shortened formats with no-ad scoring. Despite battling through Achilles pain, Michael’s determination and skill propelled his team to a well-deserved victory.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Michael on this outstanding achievement and look forward to following his continued success on and off the court. Keep up the incredible work, Michael!
